The Mayfair church elders believe our leadership and teachers should mutually agree on certain Biblical principles and values involved with teaching and edifying the church and teaching the Spiritually lost, briefly presented below.
· God created the heavens and earth and all living things including man and woman, and He is all knowing, all powerful, always present everywhere and is in control of His creation (Gen 1 & 2).
· God divinely inspired the original writings of the Bible’s sixty-six books (2 Tim 3:16), and the Bible provides answers to all religious questions including the purpose for our lives and the eternity of our souls.
· Jesus is God’s only begotten Son, born of a virgin (Matt 1:23), and through Him is eternal life (John 3:16).
· The church of Christ (Rom 16:16) was established by Jesus Christ on the first Pentecost after His resurrection (Acts 2), and continues today by those born through the seed of God’s Word and living obediently to His Word.
· Salvation of one’s soul includes God’s part and man’s part (Eph 2:8-9). One’s salvation is based on God’s grace and being a member of His church that involves: hearing the Word of God (Rom 10:17); faith/believing in God (Heb 11:6); repenting of sins (Acts 17:30); confessing Jesus as the Son of God (Acts 8:36-37); baptism by immersion (Rom 6:3-5) for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19); receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38); and living the Christian life (1 Pet 2:9-10; 2 Pet 1:1-11).
· Worship of the church is to glorify and praise God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in accordance with the New Testament: praying to God; a cappella (without instruments) singing of praises to God (Col 3:16); Lord’s Supper/Communion in remembering Christ’s death, burial and resurrection; preaching and teaching God’s Word; and giving ourselves and of our financial means; all in an humble and reverent attitude. We must love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves (Matt 22:37-39).
· Teachers of God’s Word shall receive a stricter judgment (Jas 3:1-2). Teachers must be good examples for others by being careful in what they say (e.g., abstain from gossip and profanity); being careful in what they do (e.g., abstain from drunkenness, sexual immorality, and unethical behavior); being careful where they go (e.g., avoid places of ungodly behavior and activity); and being careful in what they think (Rom 12:3; 1 Cor 10:12).
· Marriage is sacred and binding as established by God. “But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery” (Matt 5:32; Matt 19:9; 1 Cor 7:39). This also applies to the wife who divorces her husband.
